Pain Chocolat Oh La La !

Yesterday my son Rush returned home from Indonesia for Christmas. He has spent the last five months studying abroad at the National University of Singapore. Needless to say, I am over the moon !

In celebration of my only  child’s homcoming I thought I would bust out and make “My Version “of Rush’s childhood favorite Pain Au Chocolat. When Rush was 41/2 we moved to Paris (a dream come true).  Rush spent kindergarten in the 16th arrondissement at a French public school and I got to live out my fantasy as an American woman in Paris.

One of our rituals after shopping at the local grocery was to stop at the patisserie/boulangerie for a “Pain Chocolat”. Believe it or not one of the best spots was a kiosk inside the market. The fragrance was so inviting you could almost taste them. I can still hear his cute little voice as he stepped up to the counter to order “pain chocolat s’il vous plait “. It was beyond precious. I think you and your family will appreciate these little gems. The best part is they are, “easy as pie” to make.

It goes something like this :

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED

PULL THE PASTRY FROM THE FREEZER & UNWRAP * TWO IN A PACK

CUT EACH SHEET INTO FOUR SQUARES * THEY DON’T HAVE TO BE PERFECT

BUST OUT THE DC * I LIKE THIS ONE

BREAK OFF THREE SQUARES & LAY THEM DOWN

FOLD OVER & MAKE A TRIANGLE * MARK THE EDGES WITH A FORK

BEAT UP ONE EGG

BRUSH ON EACH TRIANGLE * 8 TOTAL

IN THE OVEN ON PARCHMENT PAPER @ 400 FOR 15MIN

OH LORDY B !

**

This is so darn easy that I am not going to write up an entire recipe. After all Christmas is here and I am pressed for time. Serve these up Christmas morning and you will be everyone’s hero or better yet. Make these for a  dinner party dessert and top with a little vanilla ice cream just as they pull out of the oven.

ENJOY !

PS: We had a wonderful year living in Paris, it changed all of our lives forever.

BACK IN THE STATES

[...] something that I had pinned.  Coincidentally, I had read a recipe on one of my favorite blogs, Nili Stevens Inspired Living and pinned a picture of a homemade pain au chocolat at about the same time.  I took this as a clue [...]
